9/ I replayed that whole connect session, then injected the color write. The LED changed immediately. A one-shot write was ignored; the full handshake and config read made it work.

1/ My M-VAVE SMC-PAD ignored my LED commands. The official app sent identical bytes through the same CoreMIDI path and the pad lit up. I had to capture what the app did before the color write to find the difference.

8/ The app's identical write worked through the same CoreMIDI path. Mine didn't. I used an output spy to capture the app from its first packet. Before writing, it did discovery and read the entire config with incrementing-address requests.

My test suite took 19 minutes. Now it takes 32 seconds. Same tests, same results, byte for byte. We never stop to look at the tests. They pass, so we move on. One evening with a profiler paid for itself before I closed the laptop.

5/ Blutter expected ELF; the macOS snapshot was Mach-O. I patched its experimental Mach-O branch to build a macOS-target Dart runtime. The decompile exposed sysex_codec.dart: USB SysEx with an 8→7-bit payload encoding.

7/ The AI pair also confused a file offset with a device address. I checked the live config dump: in the configuration I tested, bank A pad 1 was at 0x418, with a 26-byte stride. Correcting that still didn't make the pad accept my writes.

Vexa Insight: a self-hosted DMARC dashboard. One container, SQLite, Apache-2.0. It reads the aggregate reports out of your mailbox over IMAP and turns them into something you can investigate: which IP, which domain, did it align, is it yours. Clip is synthetic data.

3/ I decompiled Android MidiSuite with Blutter. Its color path led through sendColorData → writeData → makeWritePacket to Bluetooth GATT. Useful, but I needed the desktop app to follow the USB path.

6/ I round-tripped the pad's captured status frames to check the codec. That caught the AI pair's wrong framing constant: 0x59, not 0xB2. The corrected version reproduced the real F0 00 32 … header.

Code, docker run line and the install docs: Apache-2.0. If you don't have a DMARC mailbox to point it at, the image ships a demo seeder, so you can see the whole thing with synthetic reports in about a minute.

4/ I exported a preset from macOS MidiSuite. Each pad's color record was 09 <id> 00 7F R G B FF. I checked the RGB bytes against the editor's on-screen colors. They matched.

It's SQLite, so one replica. No horizontal scaling, and an ingest run holds the write lock. Deliberate trade: a self-hosted tool nobody wants to operate should not ship a database cluster. If you're ingesting for hundreds of domains, this is the wrong shape.

2/ I wanted the pads to reflect my QLC+ lighting setup. I swept every note across every channel and tested CC messages. Nothing lit up. Those tests gave me no working LED command.

I didn't build this to have a product. I had domains sending mail, reports arriving daily, and no way to answer "is that IP mine" without unzipping XML by hand. Why it exists, what it cost, what it still can't do:

If you already receive RUA reports for a domain: try it and tell me the first step that confuses you. That's the most useful thing anyone can send me right now. Security issues go to the private channel in SECURITY.md, not here.
