I've never landed a project on Upwork, Fiverr, or any job board. I recently had surgery. At the follow-up I asked my doctor if he needed any software built for his practice. He did. That's a client now. Any time you do business with a business, ask if they need what you do.

So I did something totally random. launched my product on Product Hunt and Hacker News. my inbox was flooded services, marketing tools. Everyone wanted to sell me something. I replied to them "I'll buy your plan. But you gotta use my product first and give me real feedback."

Build in public is not marketing. It is networking with people who will never pay you. Founders are each other's audience. Almost never each other's customer. Unless you build for founders, your buyer has never read a build in public post in their life. Go where they complain.
