If you want to post about your app on Reddit, I’d avoid r/iosdev unless your app is free. People there can be pretty harsh about paid apps, and you’ll probably get downvoted. r/iosapps is much better, although you need enough karma to post there. r/iOSDevelopment can work too. About a year ago I posted one of my apps in r/iosapps and got 8 upvotes and 57 comments because I was giving away promo codes for a free year. I wasn’t really expecting Reddit to bring paying users. For me, the value was feedback, discussion, and even a few 5-star ratings. #BuildInPublic

We have 8 apps on the App Store and 1 on Google Play (which is basically dead), and I regret it every day. We built so many to diversify our income, and that part worked. But only 3 of them are bringing in meaningful revenue, and one is still too new to judge. Maintaining all of them is hell. There are only two of us, and every app still needs updates, bug fixes, SDK changes, localizations, support, and marketing. Looking back, I’d rather have 2 or 3 well-built products than a bigger portfolio of half-finished ones. At this point, some of them just get occasional updates so they don’t become completely abandoned. #BuildInPublic

This screen made me iterate over and over because something always felt off. The left one was my first version. The right one is the latest. The biggest problem was space. The circular progress took up too much room, so you could barely see the milestones, which are actually the most important part of this screen. So I replaced it with a simple progress bar, made the Update Progress button float, and gave the milestones much more space. Same screen, but much better now. And of course, I’m already thinking about what I can improve next 🫠 #Shipaton #BuildInPublic

Finally started TikTok for the #Shipaton app. I spent the last 2 days just warming up the account, scrolling through my niche, saving ideas, and trying to understand what kind of hooks could work. Since the account is new, I’m keeping it simple and posting just 1 TikTok a day. For now, I’m doing slideshows in Figma because it’s the easiest format for me: find some nice images, add text, test a hook, post it, and see what happens. Now I just need to figure out what actually works.

Day 4 of making the #Shipaton submission video and I’m almost done 🫠 The hardest part was recording the voice since I speak very quietly, and then matching it with the screen recordings. I wrote the text myself after trying it with AI first. It sounded too generic, and you know your product better anyway.

Testing hooks for our #Shipaton app on TikTok right now, and it’s honestly not easy. I’m trying different hooks, scrolling in my niche, saving videos that got a lot of views, and figuring out what actually works for this app. I think people sometimes make TikTok marketing look too simple. You don’t just ship an app, start posting, and magically get to $10k MRR. You need time to learn what actually gets people to stop scrolling, then you still need a product good enough for them to keep using it and pay. I’m learning every day, but I already know this will take months, not days. So lower your expectations, keep learning, and be patient. #BuildInPublic

Since I somehow got a lot of new followers overnight, here’s a little about how I got into building apps. I started at 18 with zero coding experience, learned Swift for about a month, doubted myself constantly, and then just started building. A few months later, some of my apps started making real money, and I’ve been doing this ever since. I’ve never had a job or freelanced. Some months were great, some were terrible, and I thought about giving up many times. But I’m still here because I genuinely love turning ideas into real products. I use Figma, SwiftUI, and Codex to build my apps. I currently have 8 apps on the App Store and 1 on Google Play. I’m still learning all the time, and I don’t think that ever really stops. #BuildInPublic

I was doing #BuildInPublic daily for a month and got 46 followers. Then I posted a selfie with “Let’s connect” and got 2,500+ in a day. So I guess that’s how X works…

It took me 4 years to finally start posting here, and I only did it because of #Shipaton. I was skeptical at first, but I’m really glad we joined. I’ve met so many interesting people, got a lot of positive feedback, and actually started enjoying sharing my work here. Somehow I’m at 3.2k followers now, which still feels unreal. Definitely should’ve started earlier, but I guess it’s never too late ✨ #BuildInPublic

Removed some clutter from two screens in the #Shipaton app, and the whole UI feels much cleaner. Sometimes the best fix is just removing things. Empty space is usually better than adding something useless. #BuildInPublic

One of our apps was in the Top 100 Education apps in Australia for a few days. #85 in the category: 2.41M impressions → 207 downloads I honestly expected more downloads from that many impressions, but it’s still pretty nice, and I see it as a small achievement :) #BuildInPublic

I’m participating in #shipaton and for the last month I was building 10Goals, an ios app. It is a separate place for long-term goals, so they don’t get buried inside tasks, projects and notes. Most of you probably aren’t the exact target audience, but there are a lot of founders and designers here, so I’d really appreciate your feedback. What is good, what is not, what feels confusing. The app has a hard paywall, so I made a “1 year free” promo code. If you’re interested, just click the link below and it will activate the promo code. Don’t worry, there is no auto-renewal. The link: Waiting for your feedback 🤗

This is how many screens it took me to design our #Shipaton app in Figma. Mostly just a lot of iterations, simplifying things, removing clutter, and trying to make each screen feel better. If a screen feels off, sometimes it’s better to just redo it from scratch. #BuildInPublic

It took about 12 hours to review the new versions of both of my apps, and there were no rejections for any random reason, so I guess that review problem is gone. #BuildInPublic

I usually make updates for new iOS versions on time, even a month before release, but this time I just didn’t have enough time because of #Shipaton. And I’m not even talking about Duo 💀 Maybe I’ll do it in a month. I don’t even have iOS 27 installed yet... What about you? #BuildInPublic

#1 when you finally nail the hook + format on TikTok (my old app) #2 when you’re still testing everything and trying to figure out what works (my new app) Between those stages, there are usually 100 bad hooks, a lot of testing, exploring, brainstorming, and creativity. It just takes time, like everything else. Just keep testing, and eventually you’ll figure it out. #BuildInPublic

Plan for the day is to finally make a video for the #Shipaton submission featuring our app. I’ve never edited a video before (only audio when I was making meditations for one of our apps), but when you’re an entrepreneur, you end up doing 100 different jobs and learning new things all the time. So thanks @RevenueCat for making me learn another skill. #BuildInPublic

The #Shipaton submission video is almost ready. I only need to record the voice-over, and we’re done! It was actually easier than I thought it would be, but it definitely took more time than I expected. #BuildInPublic
