A really lovely GRID VIEW is coming to Basecamp 5 shortly. We had a grid view in 4, but it wasn't any good and I didn't want to drag it into 5. Had we done that, we'd have called it done and never revisited. By intentionally leaving it out, we allowed pressure to build to bring it back. And with no legacy to battle or revamp, we were able to return to the drawing board and make something so much better, from scratch. Coming to a Basecamp near you. Soon.

One of my all-time favorite HEY features is being able to rename threads so they make sense to you without messing up anything for anyone else. This is especially helpful when someone else starts a thread with a relatively nondescript name. In this real example, I rename this thread from "Cancelled" to "Canceled Frontier internet 9/17/26" just for me. To the other recipients it's still "Cancelled", as they initially named it. Here's how quick and easy that is:

Just shipped a new convenience feature in Basecamp 5. Now you can drag images/files directly onto a docs & files tool on your project page to upload them directly to the project. Before you had to click through then upload. Now you can just drop them right where you want them on the project page. Small details add up.

I like to turn subjects into notes with details I don't have to dig through the thread to find answers. When did I cancel? 9/17/26. Right there in the subject forevermore.

I'm proud to welcome @robzolkos to 37signals! Rob's a perfect, modern example of how to land an opportunity at a company you like. Rob never applied for a job here. We weren't, and aren't, hiring. He just applied himself and, in doing that, made himself impossible to ignore. He really caught our attention early when he started exploring Fizzy: Then he wrote up a piece on how to use Fizzy's webhooks: Then he had this clever idea to create a UI flipbook based on github commits: Then once we had the Fizzy API ready, Rob started on a CLI! We didn't ask for any of this. HE JUST SHOWED UP. The list goes on. He even caught other people's attention, assuming he worked at 37signals already. But he didn't. He just dug what we were doing, and then dug in some more to help. No expectations or obligations. That's how you get noticed, that's how you do it. For a while we hired him as a contractor. The more we had a look at Rob and his work, the more we decided he's exactly the kind of person we're looking for here. Someone who just gets in there and does great stuff. And now, today, I'm thrilled to call him a co-worker. Welcome Rob!

Hard agree @JensenHuang! This stance cost us 30% of our employees back in 2021, but it reset the company and was the best decision we've ever made. Our full announcement back in 2021: Six key points:

New in Basecamp 5: Now you can add or remove people from existing ping groups. Prior to this, once a group was created, it was set in stone. If you wanted to add another person, or take someone out, you had to create another group which meant losing the previous chat history from that initial group. No longer! This has been a top customer request, and it's been a long time coming, but it's here! Thanks for your patience, and hope you find it useful!

Here's a great use case for Claude and the Basecamp CLI. Pull together some inspirational photos of iconic furniture from around the world, and upload them to the appropriately named galleries inside a Basecamp project. Here's a quick walkthrough:

It's funny... I know dictation is generally better/faster, but I feel like I still want to hold on to typing. I'm giving up so many other skills (and picking up new ones, yeah), but for some reason I'm reticent to see my typing skills atrophy!

My favorite essay from The Manual. There are a lot of things you can practice in life, but the more you practice this, the better off you’re going to be in nearly any situation.
