your agent's memory now includes the word "no." selvedge v0.3.11: change_type="reject" records paths never taken, prior_attempts reports stated outcomes as exact instead of inferring, and every rejection can carry the condition that would invalidate it. pip install -U selvedge

it's open source, runs entirely on your machine, and installs in one line: pip install selvedge==0.3.7 the feature's called prior_attempts. more on what shipped:

the moment it saves you: your ai goes to rename a database column. last spring, you tried the exact same rename — and it broke billing, so you reverted it. the ai has no idea. but the reasoning is sitting in selvedge, so now it can read it before touching anything.

a decision that knows when to die: selvedge log payments.retry reject \ -r "no queue retries — provider dedup window too short" \ --expires-when "library:stripe>=12.0" selvedge stale fires it when the condition is met. locally. no LLM. v0.3.11 is out.

local SQLite, MIT, no telemetry. pip install selvedge longer post on what's changed since launch: would love to hear what breaks.

also new: selvedge watch. live tail of new events as the agent works. polls under WAL mode so it never blocks the writer. useful for the first 5 minutes after install when you actually want to see the wiring is working.

one design choice i'm proud of: it stays quiet unless it's confident. if selvedge isn't sure the history is relevant, it says nothing rather than guess. a wrong answer teaches your ai to ignore it forever. silence is recoverable. so the default is cautious on purpose.

One agent saves why a model call was rejected. A fresh agent retrieves that reason through MCP. The demo uses one local database; retrieval is explicitly prompted. Selvedge is live on DevHunt. Try it and tell me what breaks:

your coding agent shouldn’t have to rediscover why an approach failed. i built selvedge to save decisions, rejected approaches, and when to revisit them—then let your next session look them up. local-first. open source. try it:

Selvedge on Product Hunt Your next coding session shouldn’t repeat an approach you already rejected. Save the decision. Retrieve the reason. Revisit it when constraints change. MIT-licensed. Local SQLite. Try it and share feedback:

a store whose pitch is "rejected decisions stay on the record" should be able to prove the record is intact. selvedge v0.3.11: selvedge verify names the exact row that changed. honest scope: catches casual and accidental modification — not a motivated local attacker.

I built Selvedge to save the why. Illustrative record: “Rejected local cache: stale profiles.” After install: selvedge demo It saves + retrieves a sample rejection in a temporary DB. What would you test? PH: DevHunt Oct 6:

ai coding assistants have no memory. every session starts from zero. so they'll happily re-do something you already tried months ago and threw out — because they can't see why you threw it out. selvedge v0.3.7 gives your ai a memory of your project's decisions.

how it works is boringly simple: before your ai changes something, it asks selvedge one question — "has this been tried here before, and how did it turn out?" if there's history, it gets the answer and can change course. if not, it carries on. that's the whole loop.
