Yesterday I posted the rejections it took to get 16 apps into the App Store. Someone asked what I check before I submit now. Here's the list: 1. Subscribe, delete the app and install it again. Two of my apps put the paywall back up. 2. Open the paywall with an Apple ID that already used the trial. Mine showed "No payment now" and charged on tap. 3. Open the paywall on a slow connection. Until the prices load, the screen has to say they're loading, and the buy button stays off. 4. Open the Terms from the paywall and read them. Mine still said "yearly subscription" after I added a monthly plan. 5. Check every claim in the description against the test behind it. My duct calculator promised "roughly twice". The duct sizes people actually install came out at 1.09 to 1.78. 6. Run strings on the archive. My script fails if a testing switch is still in the binary, or if the real purchase code is gone. 7. Last, 8 Claude agents go through the app, one area each: math, lost data, devices, accessibility, competitors, the guideline that rejected me before, texts, money. For every problem they find, another agent tries to prove it isn't real. Number 3 is new. @timcookieceo suggested it in the replies.

I checked how much space my build folders take: 88 GB. Xcode clones every Swift package into each build folder, git history included, and I had 29 of those copies, 22 GB in all. One copy of RevenueCat's repo is 1.2 GB, mostly images from their snapshot tests. First I pointed all my projects at one shared folder. Then two builds ran at once on different RevenueCat versions. One switched the shared checkout to its version, and the other failed mid-compile. My CLAUDE.md now says: - Add RevenueCat from purchases-ios-spm. It has the same tags and products and weighs about 95 MB. - Every repo keeps its own package folder, and Claude deletes it after each App Store submission. The .xcarchive stays, because it holds the dSYMs. Maestro does the same with screenshots. It saves one for every flow and never deletes them, and ~/.maestro/tests grew to 13 GB in two weeks. My test script now keeps the 50 newest runs.

16 of my apps are in the App Store now. On the way there I collected these rejections, and after each fix Apple let the app in: 1. 3.1.2(c): the paywall didn't say how long the trial lasts, what you pay after it, and that it renews. I added all three. 2. 3.1.2(c) again: my paywall showed "$3.34/month" in big type and "$39.99 billed yearly" in small. The amount you're billed has to be the biggest, so I swapped them. 3. 3.1.2(c) a third time: the description had no link to the Terms of Use. 4. 2.3.2: the description listed features without saying they need a subscription. I fixed the text and resubmitted the same build. 5. 2.1(b): the reviewer couldn't buy either plan. My subscriptions were brand new, so I replied with a TestFlight screenshot where both load, and the same build went through. 6. 1.4.1: my cholesterol app showed reference ranges and never said where they come from. The sources have to be inside the app, easy to find. 7. 4.3(a) Spam: 18 pill counters had come out since 2024, and mine looked like one more. I replied with what mine does differently, and they approved the same build. 8. 5.6: I left testing switches that unlock the paid version in the release build. Now they're compiled out, and I run strings on every archive. Half of them I fixed without touching the code.

17 of my apps go through Apple's App Store Connect API. Six things it does that surprised me: 1. Screenshot upload URLs reject your auth header. Upload without it, or you get a 400. 2. A screenshot can sit in UPLOAD_COMPLETE forever. Waiting doesn't help, you have to delete it and upload it again. 3. A re-uploaded screenshot goes to the end of the set, so reorder the set after every fix. 4. A new version copies the description, keywords and screenshots, but not the promo text. 5. While a submission has unresolved issues, text edits go through, but screenshots get a 409 and review notes a 422 that just says "Unexpected error". 6. It won't put a subscription into the same review as your app version. That's still the "Add for Review" button in the browser.

I've set up subscriptions for more than 20 apps in App Store Connect. Again and again they got stuck before review with every field filled in. What unstuck them: 1. A new subscription starts out in 0 countries, even after you set a price, and nothing turns red. Open Availability and hit Select All. 2. Two of my subscriptions sat in Missing Metadata until I attached a build to the app version. I hadn't touched anything else. 3. When I set a price through the API, it landed in one country only. In sandbox the paywall still showed it, and tapping Buy brought up "This item is not available". 4. My script copied the price to the other 174 countries and skipped the base one, the US. App Store Connect kept saying "You must add a subscription price" with the prices right there on screen. 5. Sometimes the status only moves after you save the name and description again without changing a word. And even a free app needs its own price, set to Free. Until you do, the version won't go to review.

Week 14 of building in public. I ship tiny single-purpose apps (iOS + web). Goal: $1,000/mo. Portfolio totals: 70 active subscriptions, 11 active trials, $376 MRR, $609 revenue in the last 28 days. App Store alone: 61 subscriptions, $272 MRR and $512 in 28 days. Last Friday it was 56, $226 and $623. On the web 9 people pay every month. Money this week: $123 in the App Store and $27 on the web. After their trials, one person paid $39.99 for a year of Manual J, two paid $19.99 for a year of the duct calculator, and two kept the roof pitch and golf apps at $4.99 a week. Two more people subscribed to my transcription tool. Since July my apps have made $1,996. Followers got to 2,000 first. Trials: 10 new, 5 of them in Manual J and 3 in the roof pitch app. 6 people switched renewal off before paying anything, and 5 paid when the trial ended. Also new: I put the old name back on Manual J. Two weeks after I renamed it to BTU Calculator, about half as many people were finding it on their own. So far I've spent €34 on Apple Ads. 17 people installed Manual J from an ad, and 1 of them pays. Followers here: 2,164, from 1,685 last Friday.

For weeks I thought people were subscribing to my apps and cancelling a week later. App Store Connect dated every cancelled 7-day trial exactly 7 days after it started. That's the day the trial would have ended. The day they tapped Cancel sits in another column, Days Before Canceling. For 19 of the last 22 it was 0, and none of them ever paid. Two more times my numbers fooled me: - My script counted first downloads by the code "1". The HVAC calculator reports them as "1F", so the app that makes most of my money fell out of the totals. - RevenueCat's API rounds MRR to whole dollars. My Schengen calculator had one yearly subscriber and showed $0.

On Wednesday Replicate stopped launching the Whisper model my transcription tool runs on. Each job sat in "starting" for a day and then failed with "Prediction failed to start". My worker waited on each job with no deadline, so one stuck job held up the queue for a whole day. By Friday 83 jobs had piled up. I moved transcription to another Whisper model on Replicate. It costs me $0.165 per hour of audio instead of $0.094. The worker now gives a job 10 minutes to start and 45 to finish. If it runs over, the worker cancels it and tries once more. When the retry fails too, the user gets the credit back.

Once a subscription price cut goes live, Apple won't let you reverse it. It's in App Store Connect help, and I read it just before cutting my duct calculator from $39.99 to $19.99 a year. Everyone already subscribed renews at the lower price, and there's no option to keep them on the old one. You only get that choice when you raise a price. If you want the old price back later, that's a normal price increase, and in some countries your subscribers have to agree to it. I cut it anyway. At $39.99 only one person in 90 who downloaded it started a trial.

My cholesterol app had 179 downloads and 0 reviews. Last week I found the reason in my own code. It asked for a rating after the third saved blood test. A new test usually comes 6 to 12 months after the last one, so the third is a year or two away. I had copied that rule from my duct calculator, where people run three calculations in one sitting.

Apple switched on multiseat purchasing for your subscriptions on Thursday. Unless you changed the setting, a company can now buy your subscription for its whole team at once. I checked my 43 subscriptions through the App Store Connect API. All 43 say ENABLED, and I never opened that setting. For my HVAC load calculator that's good news: a contractor could buy it for the whole crew. I don't know yet what my app shows an employee when the company hands them a seat.

I built ScribeTape for podcasts. In the last 30 days, 1,006 of the 1,278 recordings people ran through it were Twitch streams. So yesterday I made a 22-second demo on a real Twitch VOD. It finds "Wolverine" in a stream almost 5 hours long.
